Holding Space: An Ensemble Workshop Series

In this workshop series, we'll explore the ways we connect to place and to each other. Ensemble theater is about being in relationship with each other, our feelings, our space, and our world. Using a variety of artistic practices and disciplines from meditation, movement, sound, song, poetry, writing, and improvisation we’ll discover moments of theatrical inspiration to facilitate greater awareness, accountability and change for the world in which we wish to live. We'll also draw inspiration from techniques but not limited to Alexander Technique, Viewpoints, Laban, and Clowning in our training.

The course objective is to co-create models of theater practice that are more inclusive of diverse bodies and access needs, multiple ways of integrating experience, and move towards greater personal liberation and community belonging.

This series is for the actor, dancer, musician, writer, performing artist, and/or arts enthusiast looking to widen their breadth and build an interdisciplinary approach to their craft.

  • 8 Classes: Fridays, March 5 - April 23, 9:30am - 11:00am
Sliding Scale: Drop in ($15-$30) / Full Workshop Series ($80-$200)

  • Each class will feature a rotating cohort of facilitators from foolsFURY Theater Company who will lead artists through an exploration of physicality, place, and presence to unlock their imagination and focus, and empower creative instincts.

FoolsFURY is deeply interrogating its past training practices. We recognize our practices are rooted in oppressive systems which use body shaming and words like “rigor”, “training” and “excellence” to signal value and promote competition which is in opposition to ensemble theater creation. We're committed to transformational training practice that supports a new era of theater.

All seekers welcome. This is a fierce space where all bodies belong. We encourage all interested folks of any experience, discipline, age, body type, race, gender, and ability, especially those who may be underserved or have not had the privilege of accessing theater training through traditional actor training models. We offer our classes as a sliding scale. We do not want money to be an obstacle for folks to experience art, and if funds are limited for you, please reach out. Those with specific accessibility needs, please email us at sayhi@foolsfury.org at least a week prior to session date.

Class fees goes towards supporting our facilitators and artists.
